Boarding:If you cannot take your dog with you on vacation, boarding them at a kennel can be a great idea. Before you make reservations, visit several kennels. Make a note of the cleanliness of the area and the helpfulness of the staff.Do the animals seem relatively happy? Do they seem clean? Are fecal accidents left in crates? With so many dogs, you won't be able to eat off the floor, but it should be comfortable. Some kennels even offer indoor/outdoor kennels. So long as there is sufficient shelter in the case of bad weather, this can be a great alternative for the active dog. Be sure that the fence is sufficient to hold your small dog. Don't be afraid to ask questions. How many times a day will they feed your dog? Can this be made more or less? If it is not an indoor/outdoor run, how many times a day will your dog get a chance to go to the restroom and go outside? How much does it cost? What days are they open? Talk to your friends and your veterinarian for recommendations. |
