Chewing:

They may be small, but many tiny dogs have sharp teeth, which they love to use frequently. While some chewing can be good because it can help clean plaque off their teeth, you will probably not be too happy when there are teeth marks in the leg of your favorite table. Thankfully, there are some solutions that can help keep even the chewiest dog a little happier.

If you have a small dog that loves to chew, the first step is to give them an alternative solution, such as a rawhide or bone. This gives them something they are allowed to chew so that they can satisfy their need to chew. Be sure to praise your dog when it chews the bone instead of a piece of furniture. If this does not cure the problem, then you can buy a spray at the pet store that makes the things your dog loves to chew taste bitter. However, test it on a small spot or a scrap piece of wood to be sure it will not stain your furniture.

Another step you can take is to always have your small dog somewhere you can see him. If you need to leave the house or the area, then crate your dog (just be sure he is out enough to get plenty of exercise). You can also put a small pen up so that your dog can play, but cannot reach anything that he could potentially destroy. In addition, you could simply remove the piece of furniture that your dog loves to chew to a room where your dog is not allowed to go.
