Clothes:

Dog apparel can be really helpful when it comes to small dog ownership. For short haired small dogs, like Chihuahuas, clothes such as sweaters, coats, and dresses are usually necessary in the winter. Without the extra warmth, they run the risk of getting too cold even indoors, to a level that can be dangerous to their health. For dogs with more hair, such as the Yorkshire Terrier, clothing can still be helpful on especially cold days. They have enough hair to protect them from a little bit of a chill, but during winter they can really use the added warmth. These dogs could use clothing for outside, especially when it is snowy.

Be aware, however, to be sure the dog is not overheated. Additionally, be sure that the clothing fits right. If it is too large it can catch on something and choke them, but if it is too small it can inhibit their mobility. Clothing does not just help prevent your dog from catching a chill. In fact, some small dog owners say that wearing an item of clothing helps their dog stay calm.

So whether you want to help your dog chill out or prevent a chill, it is a good idea to keep a several items of clothing around the house.  You may even want to make your own clothing for your small dog.
