Hotels and Dogs:

Having a dog with you on a trip can be a challenge, especially if you are staying in a hotel.

First, you should find the right hotel. Ask your friends and vetrinarian for dog-friendly hotels in the area you are visiting. Look up online reviews of the hotels to see the experiences of other dog owners. Then, call the hotel and ask about their dog policies (there may be restrictions on number and size of the dogs); also, be sure to ask if they charge extra for keeping a dog because many hotels charge a cleaning fee when you are staying with pets.

Once you have arrived at the hotel, be sure to expect the other guests of the hotel. It is probably not a good idea to bring along your small dog if he barks a lot. Even quiet dogs bark sometimes and if yours does, don't let him bark for a long period of time. In addition, be sure to clean up any feces of your dog outside.

Another big issue is the safety of your small dog. If you are ever not going to be in the room, you should probably crate your dog. This way he cannot destroy anything that could be harmful to him and cause you to pay for damaged property. Don't let your dog off the leash when you are outside. Consult with your vetrinarian on more ways to make the stay safe and fun.

If you do it the right way, traveling with your small dog can be a rewarding experience.
