Vomiting:

Many small dog owners are not too concerned about their dogs vomiting. Sometimes this can be okay. If your dog drinks a whole bowl of water and then is active, chances are he or she will throw up. You can tell even if you have not been closely monitoring your dog because the vomit will be mostly clear. However, if your dog is throwing up regularly, you may have a more serious problem on your hands.

Talk with your vet about the possibilities. Some dogs may have a food allergy which can be fixed with a simple change in diet. For other dogs, the problem may be more serious such as an intestinal or digestion issue. Either way, your veterinarian will be able to asses the situation to help prevent your dog from more discomfort.

It is important to be aware of one more complication that can come about because of the vomiting. When a dog loses their food, they also lose the nutrition that goes along with it. For most small dogs, this can lead to hypoglycemia which can be potentially fatal. It is extremely necessary to monitor your dog after it has vomited to prevent this from occuring. Try to get he or she to eat a keep a little food down, and immediately call your vet.
